Green Breakfast Club is a monthly breakfast speaker series and resource exchange for the social and ecological innovation community. Monthly events feature a short keynote speech given by a community leader that features a problem and its solution, followed by a peer to peer resource exchange and organic breakfast! The peer to peer resource exchange meets for monthly networking events to grow local green innovation communities through resource sharing and storytelling. The event format includes a keynote speaker’s problem and solution story, a one hour resource exchange where each attendee presents short ‘gives’ and ‘asks’ to share resources, and an opportunity for open networking thereafter. Each event produces a ‘Green Talks’ video of the keynote that is published online, and a channel for attendees to share their resources. This event meshes innovators in social and green enterprise, technology, nonprofit, startup, the financial sector and Corporate Social Responsibility — allying them to work together to grow their local and global communities through sharing resources and stories to support innovation for social and ecological change.
Green Breakfast Club began its first chapter in New York City in June 2011, expanded into Green Cocktail Club, Green Film Club, a workshop series on startups, a white label event at the Commit Forum, and prototype events in London and Nairobi. This growth was all achieved through bootstrapping, where attendees paid ticket sales and sponsors provided cash and in-kind support, to evolve the venture. This all served as an incredible prototype to assess what the core value proposition is for this venture, and how to pivot it for its next growth stage: focus on a few key western cities with mature startup ecosystems and expansion throughout Innovation Hubs worldwide; develop the Green Talks video into a robust online video archive that showcases the next generation of eco innovating leaders; establish the content of the keynote speeches into problems and solutions to the world’s pressing social and environmental issues.
Our Mission is to share resources to transition to the green economy. We seek to grow into a capacity builder for local entrepreneurial ecosystems, and to connect these local communities with a global network.
